Be a part of Food Empowerment Project’s (F.E.P.’s) fourth annual writing and illustration scholarship contest. F.E.P. was established to help liberate, and empower human and non-human animals facing injustice and to spread the importance of eating our ethics.  This contest is open to youth to expand on this year’s theme: “Leading Compassionately: Give Your Choice a Chance for Change”.

We are proud to announce that our Vegan Soul Food recipe guide is now available to order! This 48-page, full-color booklet highlights the wide variety of flavor-filled foods from the African diaspora that do not include animal ingredients and showcases that it is possible to eat vegan and still incorporate our traditional favorites. And by launching during Black History Month, we're celebrating the power of the Black community and their resilience in preserving traditions from generation to generation.

First, let’s be clear: There is cruelty inside every animal-based egg produced for consumption. Eggs are among the world’s most ubiquitous foods, but while eggs from chickens may be the type many of us imagine when we think of eggs, there are scores of other types that humans consume—and not all are from birds. Here, then, is an exploration of some of the most popular “exotic” or “specialty” eggs, along with some uncommon ones. (For the purposes of this page, we will not address eggs that are consumed solely for survival.)

Our latest page tackles the issues surrounding consuming insects, worms and other things they make. Now being raised and killed by the trillions for consumption, insects are subjected to many of the same cruelties as chickens, pigs, cows, and other farmed animals, such as cramped housing, poor nutrition, and inhumane slaughter methods, including being frozen, baked, boiled, microwaved, or mechanically shredded—all while still alive.

Food Empowerment Project’s (F.E.P.) Youth Zine, Envision, is here! This Youth Zine is created for youth and by youth as a form of expression to release energy and grow hope!  Youth hold the power to make change, but need cathartic spaces to re-energize themselves to envision a society they are proud of. Envision is designed for all young people who want to learn and strengthen their advocacy for the rights of human and non-human animals.

F.E.P. has been organizing the School Supply Drive for 11 years, and this year proved to be one of the most challenging yet deeply meaningful. At a time when ICE continues to remove people from their communities and many farm workers live under constant fear, we especially had reservations partnered with excitement.
