Food Empowerment Project Brings Back Vegan Writing and Illustration Scholarship Contest for Its Second Year

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA — Food Empowerment Project (F.E.P.), a vegan food justice organization, is thrilled to announce its second-annual Youth Writing and Illustration Scholarship Contest! This opportunity is open to youth creatives who are passionate about advocating for ethical veganism, creating a more compassionate world for all, and highlighting the artistic talents of Black, Brown, and Indigenous students.

Led by F.E.P.’s youth advocacy coordinator, Kennedy Little, this scholarship contest brings a youth-oriented lens to vegan advocacy that aligns with the organization’s current work.

"We are so excited to bring back our youth scholarship contest! With a focus on going vegan for the animals, I want to empower youth to join in the food justice fight. We are both the present and future generation of this movement, and centering our role is critical to creating a more just and humane world for all living beings," shared Kennedy.

“F.E.P. looks forward to offering many more opportunities for those who are interested in making impactful changes for the environment and human and non-human animals. Too often, youth are left out of spaces to shape their experiences and futures. F.E.P. believes that offering engaging programs where youth feel heard and seen can help form a more compassionate and inclusive world,” added Kennedy.

First-place winners will be awarded a $500 scholarship, and second-place winners will be awarded a $300 scholarship. Winners will also receive recognition from F.E.P. and have their work featured across all of the organization’s platforms. To be eligible for this contest, participants must be 11 to 24 years old at the time of submission and reside in the United States or U.S. territories. Additionally, submissions must be unpublished, original, and written in Spanish or English.

The last submission day is Thursday, April 25, at 11:59 p.m. P.T. Winners will be announced during the summer. Visit www.foodispower.org/youth-contest for more information! Check out the 2023 scholarship winners here.

About Food Empowerment Project
Founded in 2007, Food Empowerment Project is dedicated to creating a more just and sustainable world by recognizing the power of one’s food choices. The organization aims to empower those with the least resources across various advocacy areas, including fair conditions for farm workers, access to healthy foods in Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities, and the protection of animals. As a vegan food justice organization, Food Empowerment Project also exposes corporations that exploit low-income areas by promoting unhealthy foods or perpetuating food deserts (also known as food apartheid areas), and those that profit from chocolate produced through the worst forms of child labor. Food Empowerment Project is registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. To learn more, visit http://www.foodispower.org.
