1. Annual School Supply Drive
Donate school supplies to farm families in needIt’s time for Food Empowerment Project’s Bay Area school supply drive for the children of farm workers. The farm workers who pick our food are entrenched in an exploitative system that prioritizes greed over families.

While we work to challenge that system, we need to provide the farm workers’ families with the support they deserve.

From July 13th to July 27th, we will be collecting school supplies at various Bay Area drop-off locations. We will distribute the supplies to the children of farm workers in the Watsonville/Salinas and Sonoma County areas.

Please look at our list of needed school supplies and help us support the families who work so hard to put food on our tables.

2. US Social Forum in San José, CA
Please join us in San José, CA, for the US Social Forum and Food Sovereignty People’s Movement AssemblyJune 24th-28th.

F.E.P. founder lauren Ornelas will be speaking on Friday morning, June 26th. This event will be a wonderful opportunity to come together and move forward in the movement for food sovereignty.

3. Food Fight! Fundraiser June 28th (online and in-store)

So, wherever you are in the world, you can buy from Food Fight! and support both a great vegan resource and F.E.P. all at once.

Thanks so much to our friends at Food Fight!

4. Our Promise California State Employees Initiative

Donate Now!Attention, California State employees: it just got easier to donate to F.E.P.!

We are delighted to have been selected as an affiliate in the Our Promise: California State Employees Giving at Work Initiative for 2015-2016. This program enables California State employees to utilize payroll deductions to make contributions to F.E.P.!

What an easy and efficient way to support F.E.P. through monthly donations!

5. Thank Yous Jonah's donation!

A huge thanks to Jonah Nessel, one of our youngest supporters, who asked for donations to our school supply drive in lieu of birthday presents.

Jonah collected 15 backpacks and a huge assortment of other desperately needed supplies to help the children of farm workers have a successful school year.

Thank you, Jonah, for your inspiring generosity!

Thanks also go out to our friends and supporters in Colorado!

Plants and Animals Denver and NOOCH Vegan Market raised $1,200 for F.E.P. at their bake sale for World Wide Vegan Bake Sale Day.

Thank you to the bakers and to the eaters who showed up to support our work – we really appreciate your support!

* Suggested language and details: Please make a polite phone call and keep in mind the person you are speaking to probably has no idea about this policy—most people don’t. You just need to stay on the line for a customer service representative. For Safeway, they will ask you for your full name and phone number and if you have a Safeway card number.

Suggested language: “I am calling to log a comment against a Safeway / Albertsons policy that sometimes puts restrictive deeds on its former properties and prevents other grocery stores from moving in, sometimes for 10 years or more. This has impacted community health. I would like Safeway / Albertsons to end this policy immediately.”
