1. The Farm Worker Appreciation Day in Salinas, CA, was a huge success!

Thanks so much to our fantastic supporters who donated to the Farm Worker Appreciation food drive. You were so generous that we actually rolled into Salinas in a truck full of food donations to support the farm workers, who are paid so little that they cannot afford to buy the very food they pick.

The event was a great opportunity to show solidarity and express our gratitude for the farm workers. We discussed other food justice issues, including the lack of access to healthy foods, problems with corporations such as McDonalds and KFC, and, of course, how animals are treated for food.

Read lauren’s blog post to see photos, learn more about the event, and find ways to help support F.E.P.’s solidarity work.

See more photos from the event on Facebook.

2. Join F.E.P. at the Resistance Ecology and Animal Rights conferences!

Two chances to say hello and check out our new stickers!

If you are one of our wonderful Portland, OR, supporters, or you plan to be in Portland June 27th – 29th, please join F.E.P. at the 2nd Annual Resistance Ecology conference and hear
lauren speak. We’ll have a table, too, so please stop by!

In mid-July, lauren will also be speaking at the annual Animal Rights
Conference
in Los Angeles (July 10th – 14th). Check it out if you are in L.A. or are in town for the conference, and once again, come and say hello at our table

3. In case you missed it!

Our chocolate app got a shout out in The Times Leader’s article on veg*nism. Download F.E.P.’s app today so you will always know which chocolate is vegan and what we recommend!

F.E.P. participated in the annual Green Kids Conference in Mountain View, CA. The kids had a great time playing food-related games, learning about water waste, and getting to share their pride in their own compassionate food choices. Read more about this great event!

lauren was interviewed by Responsible Eating and Living. Listen to the interview.

If you have not already, please sign and share our Clif Bar Petition. We are asking Clif Bar to disclose where they get their chocolate. As a company priding itself on social responsibility, Clif should be transparent about an issue as important as child slavery.

* Suggested language and details: Please make a polite phone call and keep in mind the person you are speaking to probably has no idea about this policy—most people don’t. You just need to stay on the line for a customer service representative. For Safeway, they will ask you for your full name and phone number and if you have a Safeway card number.

Suggested language: “I am calling to log a comment against a Safeway / Albertsons policy that sometimes puts restrictive deeds on its former properties and prevents other grocery stores from moving in, sometimes for 10 years or more. This has impacted community health. I would like Safeway / Albertsons to end this policy immediately.”

If they ask questions you cannot answer, feel free to provide our email: info@foodispower.org and remind them you are calling because you disagree with this practice.
